Today’s offering comes from artist/writer Andy Runton. Owly is a story told with few, if any, words. Owly is a kindly owl that wants to make friends, have fun and find some adventure along the way. The illustrations are beautiful and tell the story simply through the expressions and actions of the characters.
This particular book is the 4th in an ongoing series about Owly and his friend Wormy. In this story, Wormy learns to be brave when confronted with something that is unknown. He believes that a Possum he glimpses behind a tree is a dragon like the one that Owly was reading about earlier in the story. The possum is frightened young animal that thinks that Owly is scary.
It’s a lesson about not judging someone until you meet then and not jumping to conclusions about the unknown.
Is it right for kids? Most certainly yes it is. This is suitable for any age, right from toddlers to pre-schoolers. Kids that are starting to read may be a little bored due to the lack of actual reading but should enjoy the drawings and figuring out the story on their own.
